API

An application programming interface (API) specifies how some software components should interact with each other.

AD TAG

Ad Tag - A snippet of code that requests or passes along data.  The data may be the size of the placement, the publisher's URL, or some other kind of information, or a creative or other content

ASSET

Assets can be either images or videos. Connected-Stories supports JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF, MOV, MP4.

CDN

A Content Delivery Network (CDN) is a large distributed system of servers deployed in multiple data centers across the Internet. The CDN serves video content to end-users with high availability and high performance.


CGI

Common Gateway Interface (CGI) is a scripting method for generating dynamic content on web pages.


CMS

A Content Management System (CMS) is a computer program that allows publishing, editing and modifying content as well as maintenance from a central interface.


CONTEXT

Contexts are the final nods that conclude each outcomes of logic in a rules engine. Contexts can then be linked to events in a story timeline to trigger widgets. They can also connect to each story when applied to campaigns.

Creative - The actual advertisement.


CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE

A feature exclusive to premium platform customers. A section of the Real-Time Decisioning dashboard that allows you to directly compare two creatives with multiple metrics.


CROSS DEVICE RECOGNITION

Cross Device Recognition is a means by which internet user can be identified across multiple devices (smartphones, tablets and PCs).


CSS

Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) is a style sheet language used for describing the look and formatting of a document written in a markup language, such as HTML.


CSV

A Character Separated Values (CSV) file stores tabular data (numbers and text) in plain-text form.


cURL

cURL is a command line tool for getting or sending files by using the URL syntax.

DECISION TREE

A decision tree is a flowchart-like structure in which each internal node represents a test on an attribute, each branch represents the outcome of the test and each leaf node represents a class label (decision taken after computing all attributes). 


DNS

The Domain Name System (DNS) is a hierarchical distributed naming system for computers, services, or any resource connected to the Internet or a private network.

DRM

Digital Rights Management (DRM) is a class of technologies that are used by hardware manufacturers, publishers, copyright holders, and individuals with the intent to control the use of digital content and devices after sale.


DSP

The Demand-side platform (DNS) allows buyers of digital advertising to manage multiple ad exchange accounts through one interface. Marketers use DSPs to buy ad impressions from exchanges as cheaply and as efficiently as possible.

EVENT

An event is what dictates the appearing of a widget at a certain point in a story’s timeline. Event need to be timecoded.

FORMATS

Formats are the ad formats that are supported by Connected – Stories and that can compose a campaign. Can contain multiple stories. For a list of formats visit the Add a Format section.

FTP

File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is a standard network protocol used to transfer files from one host to another host over a TCP-based network, such as the Internet.

HyperText Markup Language (HTML) is the main markup language for creating web pages and other information that can be displayed in a web browser.


HTML5

HTML5 is a markup language used for structuring and presenting content for the World Wide Web and a core technology of the Internet. It is the fifth revision of the HTML standard.

Impression - A creative served to a single user at a single point in time.

INSTANT APP

An instant app is a particular kind of widget designed in HTML5 and therefore highly customizable.

JSON

JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) is a lightweight method of transferring data in a text-based, human-readable format, for representing simple data structures and associative arrays (called objects).

JOURNEY DESIGNER

A drag-and-drop environment where conditions and rules can be set in order to cater which audience is exposed to certain creatives. The "brain" of Connected-Stories.

KPI

A performance indicator or key performance indicator is a type of performance measurement. KPIs evaluate the success of an organization or of a particular activity in which it engages.

MACRO

A MACRO is a change to a string of text that makes up third-party ad tags that is made in order to allow publisher and advertiser to accurately perform certain functions, such as counting impressions and clicks.


MASH-UP

A mash-up is a web page, or web application, that uses content from more than one source to create a single new service displayed in a single graphical interface.


MRAID

Mobile Rich Media Ad Interface Definitions (MRAID) is the IAB’s project to define a common API (Application Programming Interface) for mobile rich media ads that will run in mobile apps.

Representational state transfer (REST) is a style of software architecture for distributed systems such as the World Wide Web.


RTB

Real Time Bidding is a means by which advertising inventory is bought and sold on a per-impression basis, via programmatic instantaneous auction, similar to financial markets.


RULES ENGINE

Rules engine are the underlying magic to Connected-Stories. They power the logic at both campaign and story level.

SDK

A software development kit (SDK) is a set of software development tools that allows for the creation of applications for a certain software environment.

 

SSL

Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is a cryptographic protocols designed to provide communications security over a computer network.


SSP

The Supply-side platform (SSP) allows sellers of digital advertising to sell advertising in an automated fashion.

Publishers use SSPs to maximize the prices their impressions sell at.


STORY

A story is the backbone of a campaign and the actual dynamic ad unit. A story can have one rules engine associated and needs to have a format.


STUDIO

A part of the Connected-Stories platform which is the creative workspace in which the creatives are made.

TLS

Transport Layer Security (TLS) is a cryptographic protocol designed to provide communications security over a computer network.

URL

The Uniform Resource Locator (URL) is a reference to a resource on the World Wide Web.

The URL consists of two parts:

  • The protocol identifier indicating the protocol for retrieving the resource.
  • The resource name specifying the IP address or the domain name where the resource is located at.

VAST

The Video Ad Serving Template (VAST) specification is a universal XML schema for serving ads to digital video players. The specification describes the expected video player behaviour when executing VAST ­formatted ad responses.

VPAID

The Video Player Ad-Serving Interface Definition (VPAID) establishes a common interface between video players and ad units.

With VPAID:

  • Advertisers have more control over the display experience in their video campaigns.
  • VPAID compliant video players enable a more diverse and interactive set of video advertising.

WEB 2.0

Web 2.0 describes web sites that use technology beyond the static pages of earlier web sites. A Web 2.0 site may allow users to interact with each other in a social media dialogue as creators of user-generated content in a virtual community, in contrast to websites where people are limited to the passive viewing of content.


WIDGETS

Widgets are elements that can be placed as events within a story. Widgets examples include Polls, Quizzes, and Photo Galleries.
